September is the Month For Honey
The rates of people dying from cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity and cancer have been increasing for the past years. Most of these people lived in urban cities or industrialized locales, characterized by sedentary lifestyles, pollution, and bad habits such as smoking, drinking and sleep deprivation. Also, most of these people purchase the readily available fast food and processed foods found in the supermarket - non-organic foods that usually high in preservatives, food and color additives, and salt, fat or sugar content. Therefore, one simple way to keep a healthy lifestyle is to switch from non-organic foods to organic foods.
What is the main difference between these two? First of all, non-organic foods can be characterized by packaged foods that have longer shelf life. But in order to do that, they are packed with artificial preservatives such as monosodium glutamate. Also, most of this type of food are delicious because they are mixed with food and color additives, artificial sweeteners and flavors and contains a lot of unsaturated or trans fats. Some of them even have has also been exposed to fertilizers with antibiotics or pesticides to ensure its healthy growth. The problem with all these things is that they chemicals which enter the non-organic foods could have detrimental effects in the body when taken or consumed in large amounts. For example, fertilizers and pesticide might contain carcinogens and produce cancer-producing cells in the body. Too much packaged food or fast food increases the level of fats, carbohydrates and glucose in the body, making our system susceptible to negative health effects such as obesity, diabetes, and artherosclerosis.
On the other hand, organic foods contain none of the chemicals found in non-organic foods. Most of them are high in fiber, vitamins and minerals, and other nutrients. Examples of this are whole grain wheat, green leafy vegetables, fruits, legumes and nuts and they keep our bodies fit and healthy by boosting our immune system, maintaining normal functioning of our organs such as intestines, heart and lungs, and drives away potential illnesses. For example, honey which is an organic food obtained from bees and extracted from their honeycombs, is natural sweetener that contains carbohydrates, Vitamin C and glucose that is good for the bodies. Honey can be used as syrups or jams for breakfast, or as a main ingredient in making wonderful and delicious pastries.
Besides being a food source, honey is also used to create organic beeswax that is utilized to make all natural candles. Natural wax candles made from beeswax is all the rage when creating a natural ambiance in your home or office space, and in inducing relaxation through its pleasant-smelling properties. It also mimics the health effects of honey by purging toxins in creating cleaner smelling and eco-friendly candles.
