On Picnic Food
Everything is fast nowadays. The hustle and bustle of life in the fast lane crams up our life. People are demanding everything to be fast and we sacrifice the many superfluities and fancies of our life just to get ahead and get things done quickly.
On the other hand, picnics revolve around the slowness of the day. Nothing matters except for the Frisbee. ‘Tis always worry-free whenever picnics are around.
Planning a picnic requires that you also plan about your picnic food. During your regular days, you’d rather run to McDonald’s and grab a food “to go” and rush home to relax. The simple idea of a picnic brings in an idea of “lazy luxury” and your picnic food should do the same. Nothing hurried, just well-prepared food.
If you want to achieve “lazy luxury” with picnic foods, you need to have the right attitude. The food does not have to be very tedious to prepare, you just need to take it a little further and a hint more glamorous than your everyday food. You can try matching a hamburger with a delicious bottle of wine or a fried chicken and compose it with gravy in a high-end veggie tray. Incorporate the unusual in your picnic food but do not kill yourself over the preparations.
So you’d know better what I mean, try these easy yet glamorous picnic foods:
1. A McDonald’s quarter-pounder with cheese combined with a perfect bottle of your Merlot and a delightful tray of cheese and crackers. Do not get flabbergasted about cheese and crackers. Your local grocery store definitely has pre-cut cheese and crackers that are perfect for this menu.
2. Taco Bell Quesadillas, chilled margaritas and fresh salsa hodgepodge are also options. Do not be scared about salsa preparations. All you need to do is dice up 3 tomatoes, add a can of green chilies, a couple of fresh parsley, small diced onion (red or white although white is more aromatic), and a pack of taco seasoning. Do not forget the chips!
As for the chilled margaritas, some come pre-mixed so you don’t have to hassle yourself in preparing them. Some picnic baskets are perfect to keep these at the right temperature for afternoon lazy picnics at the park.
3. For low carb choices, you can opt for chili lettuce wraps and mixed nuts with white wine. A bit of meat, a couple of veggies, grilled just a little and wrapped in lettuce. Yummy!
4. A bucket of colonel’s chicken lined up in a lovely veggie tray. Here’s what you do: order the food to go, take it out of the “take out” container and arrange it on your china or a lovely picnic ware together with some vegetables. It would look like you spent hours preparing that food alone.
To sum it all up, picnic food does not have to be tediously prepared. You can eat whatever you want and you can do so with style. You can spruce it up a little to make your picnic more memorable and extremely elite with high-end presentation. The total enjoyment does not depend on how much you spent for your picnic but on how much you enjoyed it.

| Review by K. Thomas (Seattle, WA) 2005-02-28 Since the brand name and impressive features of this instrument, I had high hopes for his performance - but eventually I found it to be just "good."
